One of the easiest ways to start decluttering

Words matter.

Therefore, the first thing you should declutter is your closet language.

What words do you use to describe the stuff you live with?

Here are a few words I used to throw around:

Junk. Crap. Garbage. Mess.

Yeah … not my best words.

I was basically saying: this part of my life is junk, crap, garbage.

That’s low-vibe energy to conjure in your home.

So here’s what you do: Next time you catch yourself muttering insults at your surroundings (aka yourself), stop.

Take a breath. Then try a different word:

Stuff. Collection. Objects. (Neutral is powerful.)

Want to take it a step further?

Try play. Play shifts the energy.

Take inspiration from collective nouns—like a bed of clams or a parliament of owls. (A shout-out to The Unemployed Philosopher’s Guild tea towel that sparked this!)

Here are a few made-up ones to get your wheels turning:

  • Paper: A blizzard of papers

  • Chargers/Cords: A snarl of chargers

  • Mugs: A hangover of mugs

  • Plastic Bags: A plethora of plastic
